Yo! Check Out This Ride! EP
Yo, Check Out This Ride! EP is an EP by American band The Aquabats, released independently in 2004. The EP was made available only through the band's official website and their live shows.
Overview
Yo, Check Out This Ride! is the Aquabats' first self-produced and independently released recording since their 1995 debut The Return of the Aquabats. Musically, the EP foreshadows the stylistic direction the Aquabats would take on their subsequent release Charge!!, progressing almost entirely away from the band's former ska influences and into punk rock and New Wave-inspired territory. This was the last Aquabats release to feature Prince Adam as an official member and the first to include drummer Ricky Fitness.
The cover art (depicting a horseback Aquabat lassoing a strange dinosaur creature) was painted by Aquabats artist Brandon Bird.
Reception
Scott Auth of Punknews.org gave Yo, Check Out This Ride! 3½ out of 5 stars, commenting "Musically this isn’t the greatest work they’ve ever prepared; sadly there's not a trace of ska to be found on Yo, Check Out This Ride! As heartbreaking as that is, it's still a quality EP worthy of purchase."[1]
